The narrow alleyway bordering the site dates back to the middle ages

A watching brief was carried out during foundation works for a house extension. An area of cobbles and two sandstone slabs were revealed in one of the trenches and another slab in a second trench but no pottery or other finds to help date the features or explain their function. The most likely explanation is that they were part of a garden path.
