The excavation in progress

The construction of an extension to the rear of this property was preceded by the excavation of two trenches to determine the nature of any archaeology surviving on the site. Both trenches found that the ground level had been raised in the 13th or 14th centuries by dumping household refuse onto the natural shoreline. A stone wall was discovered along the west side of the site which may have been the foundations for a building. It was on the same axis as the medieval timber frame surviving against the west wall of the property.
