The sand below the cellar floor shows the building was constructed on the beach

The cellar of this 18th century building was examined during its refurbishment and was constructed with brick on top of masonry. The stonework suggests there was an earlier structure on the site. The floor of the cellar rested on sand the upper levels of which appear to have accumulated during the later medieval period.
