Modern Falsgrave showing the location of the excavation

The Scarborough suburb of Falsgrave was a settlement in its own right at the time of the Domesday Survey of 1086 when it was the most important village in the district. An excavation project to try and locate evidence of this settlement has been started. The excavation in the garden at the rear of this property found a small quantity of medieval pottery. Other evidence had probably been lost when the ground was levelled to make the garden in the 19th century.
